JC and the Resurrection

I have been re-reading the entirety of the collected appearances of John Constantine.  If you have never read much Hellblazer, you owe it to yourself to explore my favorite comic book character of all time.  Reviews and more to follow...

RED STATE REVIEW BY BearZombies

Hello again,
SO I just finished watching the new Kevin Smith movie, Red State! Ladies and Gentlemen, I loved it. He shows that he still has a keen ear for dialogue, great vision as a director and wonderful writing. Its a great social commentary on a religion fanatic group and even a perspective on the authorities often tasked with their dismantlement or worse, take down.

Great action, and overall a great movie on all counts. I will say, the end left a bit to be desired, but as a whole I am very glad Kevin made another movie.

See if you can find the scene that a little girl thought was real. It's her real reaction.

At any rate, wanted to get blurb up and encourage everybody to check it out. DONT FORGET TO LISTEN TO THE PODCAST!

Paranormal Activity 3 review by BZ **SPOILERS**

Ok, so I broke down and saw Paranormal Activity 3 with my wife, being the huge horror fan that I am and cant seem to stay away even if it promises to disappoint. SO, we try to buy tickets the day before we see it but the theater is sold out. The next day we get them early and when we walk in we find that it is so packed we have to sit in separate seats (which I don't like because I often like to whisper my own commentary if the movie starts to fall off and suck ass). The whole experience, I can tell, is going to suck because I am sitting in from of some asshole fuck faces who also like to add commentary....to the whole movie....very VERY loudly.

 REVIEW
The movie wasn't spectacular but then again I didn't find any of the three to be. What I did love was that they set a camera up on an oscillating fan, creating a pan. This helped build suspense in a pretty classic horror move. Good shock scares if that's your thing and I do feel like this movie built suspense up appropriately and very heavily toward the middle of the film rather than putting it all in your face at the very end. Like a lot of sequels, I felt like much of this was recycled from the previous two. They fix some holes like HOW CAN THE GIRLS NOT REMEMBER THIS SHIT with a 2 second blurb about brainwashing so people don't remember anything. I felt like they should have gone harder with the intensity of the haunt. I liked that they made it less of a ghost and more of a demon, given the physicality of it, but they lacked a reason WHY all of this happened (**SPOILERS** WHY did the grandmother have her daughter killed, the dad killed and take the girls? Why not show the whole house fire bit? **SPOILERS**). I know, I know. "Its a movie and a horror movie at that, don't ask questions", but still, I think these are legitimate things to explain.

I really really really liked some bits of the movie though. **SPOILERS** I loved Katie being lifted by the hair and running into Toby. This helped for me because the whole dust settling on Toby part gave it more of an invisible demon rather than ghostly feel **SPOILERS**. I also really dug on the whole Bloody Mary scene as it was in the movie (pretty intense and MUUUCH better than what was in the previews). The scares set up around the babysitter were pretty typical but also good, well carried out. As a whole, the script was ok, action was decent but I feel it should have been ramped up and the end, I think, should have been redone.

I do look forward to the DVD with hopes of seeing the cut scenes (VERY few things seen in the previews were actually in the movie) and maybe some sort of a fucking tie up to the original story arc considering this is supposed to be the last installment.

On a side note, I missed the beginning of the previews which made me sad but I am HELLA looking forward to The Devil Inside.

WELL, there are my two cents. What did you think of the movie?

October Movie Lists Courtesy of BEARZOMBIES!

!!Ok, Ok so the most wonderful time of the year is upon us and many of you, like myself, probably love to juice up on the horror movies this month. I always run into the issue of either blanking out when faced with rows and rows of Horror movies or maybe some of you just don't know whats out there or what you want that night. SO, in honor of this season I'm gonna give you a list, broken down by general types of horror (to aide in your pickage) of some of my favorites, enjoy!

EVIL
*The Exorcist
I mean, this is all I need to put here. Come on.

VAMPIRE
*Nosferatu is a standalone classic, silent and gritty but just an amazing story and I mean, Max Schreck was just amazing
*Let the Right One In
*From Dusk Til Dawn, comedy and horror, I dig it because of the lack of CGI and Tom Savini did the major makeup
*Lost Boys
*Blade
*Interview With the Vampire is alright. I like it alot but ALOT of people dont, so take it or leave it
*The Hamiltons, this wasnt an AWESOME movie or anything but I was really digging the different take on the vampire

ZOMBIE
There are so many great and just awful zombie movies that I am going to try to be careful here. Many on my list are going to be classics, because they hit before the super push of zombie craze which resulted in some of the just absolutely shittiest movies I have ever seen.
*28 Days Later
*28 Weeks Later
*Dawn of the Dead
*Evil Dead
*Evil Dead 2 *both are half comedy. Great films
*Return of the Living Dead
*Night of the Living Dead
*Re-Animator

**Some would argue ZombieLand and Shaun of the Dead, but I consider those comedys not horrors at all, so take it or leave it.

WEREWOLF
*The Howling
*Dog Soldiers
*An American Werewolf in London
*The Wolfman (original NOT NOT NOT the new one)
*Trick r Treat

GHOST/HAUNTING
*13 Ghosts
*The Haunting (1963original not remake)
*Session 9
*Poltergeist
*The Shining
*Stir of Echoes
*The Amityville Horror (orig)

!!!Slasher/Monster/Killer/Classic Halloween Movies!!!
*A Nightmare on Elm Street (Several)
*Halloween (several)
*Friday the 13th (Several up to a point....Jason X for example is utter shit)
*The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
*High Tension
*Candyman
*Alien
*Aliens
*The Thing
***HELLRAISER***

There are thousands and thousands of movies to choose from, and I'm sure some of these wont tickle your fancy or will bore you or whatever, we all have different tastes (mine is just better is all). Random Bits of Geek

In the stellar explosion that created the universe a large collection of geek, the unifying substance of worlds and life (the good life not the shitty job holding, bill paying kind) was blown to smithereens and tiny pieces landed on this planet Earth. Some grew to become great and powerful beings like writers (Ennis, Gaiman, Johns, Morrison, Lee, Azzarello, Moore). Some create film (Miike, Tarantino, Ritchie). Others strive to absorb enough power to achieve such great badical turbo radness and this is where The Reverend Grimes and Bear Zombies come into play. Together they study and take in all things geek, taking out lesser life forms and absorbing their being Highlander style until they conquer and control all things dork, nerd and geek related. Soon they shall inherit the Earth and claim it with a flag signifying that those under corporate monikers and day to day monotony have a future. A future in geekdom. Kowtowing now and accepting the fates that are impending will save those who are willing. Failing to do so will result in....well not a physical confrontation, but we will SO scourge you in snarky words and F-Bombs. So sit back, relax and take in some Random Bits of Geek. Become one of us. Join us. Worship. Also, maybe pick us up a pizza and some Monsters on the way...cuz  we're hungry for food, and power. But, mostly food. And, power.
