Ok, so I broke down and saw Paranormal Activity 3 with my wife, being the huge horror fan that I am and cant seem to stay away even if it promises to disappoint. SO, we try to buy tickets the day before we see it but the theater is sold out. The next day we get them early and when we walk in we find that it is so packed we have to sit in separate seats (which I don't like because I often like to whisper my own commentary if the movie starts to fall off and suck ass). The whole experience, I can tell, is going to suck because I am sitting in from of some asshole fuck faces who also like to add commentary....to the whole movie....very VERY loudly.
REVIEW
The movie wasn't spectacular but then again I didn't find any of the three to be. What I did love was that they set a camera up on an oscillating fan, creating a pan. This helped build suspense in a pretty classic horror move. Good shock scares if that's your thing and I do feel like this movie built suspense up appropriately and very heavily toward the middle of the film rather than putting it all in your face at the very end.
Like a lot of sequels, I felt like much of this was recycled from the previous two. They fix some holes like HOW CAN THE GIRLS NOT REMEMBER THIS SHIT with a 2 second blurb about brainwashing so people don't remember anything. I felt like they should have gone harder with the intensity of the haunt. I liked that they made it less of a ghost and more of a demon, given the physicality of it, but they lacked a reason WHY all of this happened (**SPOILERS** WHY did the grandmother have her daughter killed, the dad killed and take the girls? Why not show the whole house fire bit? **SPOILERS**). I know, I know. "Its a movie and a horror movie at that, don't ask questions", but still, I think these are legitimate things to explain.
I really really really liked some bits of the movie though. **SPOILERS** I loved Katie being lifted by the hair and running into Toby. This helped for me because the whole dust settling on Toby part gave it more of an invisible demon rather than ghostly feel **SPOILERS**. I also really dug on the whole Bloody Mary scene as it was in the movie (pretty intense and MUUUCH better than what was in the previews). The scares set up around the babysitter were pretty typical but also good, well carried out. As a whole, the script was ok, action was decent but I feel it should have been ramped up and the end, I think, should have been redone.
I do look forward to the DVD with hopes of seeing the cut scenes (VERY few things seen in the previews were actually in the movie) and maybe some sort of a fucking tie up to the original story arc considering this is supposed to be the last installment.
On a side note, I missed the beginning of the previews which made me sad but I am HELLA looking forward to The Devil Inside.
WELL, there are my two cents. What did you think of the movie?
